Published

on

The UFC has added BBC Three as a partner in a new landmark ‘editorial and promotional partnership’in a new deal that will bring the sport of mixed martial arts into more homes across the United Kingdom. The news was announced by the promotion early on Monday.

The new deal will sit outside of the current UK broadcasting contract that is currently held by BT sport and will include preview and special behind-the-scenes to be shown via the new online digital platform that BBC Three launched last week.

The deal is set to commence this week in the lead up to Saturday’s UFC London card which will be headlined by Michael Bisping and Anderson Silva inside the O2 Arena. The promotion confirmed that the deal will include coverage of all European, Middle East and Asian shows with, should they feel the desire, the option of covering international shows as well.

So what does this actually mean is available for the UK & Irish fans? Well, the partnership will see live commentary and post-fight video offered by BBC Three via their social media accounts and the Daily Drop, BBC Three’s live page.

It is also understood that the BBC Three will be producing short films focused on the sport of mixed martial arts as a whole. Films on some of the UFC’s biggest stars may also be included.

The UFC’s EMEA chief James Elliot who spoke with the Sun had the following to say regarding the new landmark deal.

We are thrilled to be recognised as a valuable asset for BBC Three and the wider BBC Sport team.

Audiences across the UK & Ireland are becoming more and more knowledgeable about the skill, athleticism and ethics of MMA fighters and the great events and content produced by the UFC, which is driving fans to seek content from media outlets.

BBC Three is a perfect fit for the UFC and we look forward to an exciting year working together to bring great content to their audiences.

Ovince Saint Preux Steps in to Face Corey Anderson at UFC 217

Published

on

UFC 217 just got even more interesting. Earlier this week, Patrick Cummins pulled out of his light heavyweight matchup with Corey Anderson due to a Staph infection. Corey “Overtime” Anderson was not happy with his opponents decision, even calling out his opponent on Instagram asking how Cummins could, “call it quits so far from fight night”.

The UFC left Anderson on the card, and he found an opponent through the magic of Twitter. Ovince Saint Preux tweeted out directly to Anderson stating:

It didn’t take long for Anderson to respond agreeing to the fight, tagging Mick Maynard and Dana White in his response.

Only a few short hours later, the fight announcement came from the official UFC twitter account.

This top 10 Light Heavyweight matchup should add to an already amazing card coming in November at Madison Square Garden. Saint Preux is coming off of back to back wins both due to the very rare von flue choke, he finds himself ranked #7th in the latest edition of the 205-pound rankings. Corey “Overtime” Anderson is 4-2 in his last 6 fights, but is coming off a brutal first round knockout loss to Jimi Manuwa in March.

With such a exciting fight added to this card, what do you see happening November 4th?  Will Corey Anderson bounce back and look to jump into the top 5 of the rankings, or will Ovince Saint Preux go for a third straight von flue choke? Let us know.
