UFC Fight Night Denver – How to Watch, Times and Fight Card

Valentina Shevchenko vs Julianna Pena UFC

On Saturday night the UFC return to where it all began. Way back in 1993 the UFC promoted their first event in Denver, Colorado. They returned for UFC 2 the following year, and the Ultimate Ultimate in 1995. Now more than two decades on, UFC on FOX: Shevchenko vs. Pena takes place January 28 at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado.

The main event between Valentina Shevchenko and Julianna Pena is believed to be a bantamweight title eliminator. Don’t be surprised to see reigning champion Amanda Nunes poop on that parade by opting to fight for the featherweight strap in her next outing.

Shevchenko has been outstanding in her young UFC tenure. The fighter debuted with a short notice win over one of the greatest of all time, Sarah Kaufman. Last time out Shevchenko made former champion Holly Holm look ordinary en route to a unanimous decision victory.

Sandwiched in between those wins was a failed effort to beat Amanda Nunes. The Brazilian has proven to be the best bantamweight in the world, but was pushed hard in the third round by Shevchenko before winning by decision.

Julianna Pena burst onto the UFC scene by winning The Ultimate Fighter 18, defeating Jessica Rakoczy in the final. Since then, Pena has won all three of her UFC outings against competent opposition. Defeats to Sarah Moras and DeAnna Bennett in 2012-13 before entering the show have become distant memories.
