December 19, 2015. Orlando, Florida
The final event put on by the UFC in 2015 has come to an end, and in entertaining fashion. Rafael Dos Anjos has successfully defended his lightweight title for the first time as he defeated Donald Cerrone, a really active fighter who came into the bout with a ton of momentum, via TKO in the first round.
As always, the MMA Latest team will have full coverage on tonight’s post fight activities and we’ll also be live-streaming the post-fight press conference here. Tonight’s stream is scheduled to begin shortly. Be sure to refresh the page as I’ll be updating the page.
Post Fight Press Conference Notes:
- Dos Anjos in his post fight speech: “Hey, Mr. McGregor, if you want to come to the lightweight division, this is my division; it’s better to stay in the featherweight division,” Dos Anjos warning the feathweight champion Conor McGregor. “I will fight you in Brazil. I will go to Ireland to face you there. Wherever you want, I’m here to stay.”
- The attendance gate beat the previous record gate they had last time they were in Florida.
Rafael Dos Anjos
“My coaches told me, ‘you have 25 minutes, but don’t give him the opportunity.’ Said Dos Anjos on his fast ending performance.
Dos Anjos on McGregor:
“He wants to come to my division, it won’t be a smart decision for him, but if he wants to I will have to welcome him.””We’re not even in the same division, if he comes – I’ll be here.”
The lightweight champion is very active, and will not worry for anything else as he’s focused on resting for the holidays.
I’ve been training hard, since 5 months ago. I think I’m just going to enjoy with my family in the end of the year. Looking forward to come back soon.”
Nate Diaz – on his return:
“It feels good to be back. Last year when I fought, I had no real motivation. I want a good fight, I want fights that matter and make sense. He wants a big fight, but WE can fight, and I’m talking real fights, not fake, funny fights.” if we want a fight that people want to see it’s going to be me and Conor McGregor.”
Diaz if he enjoyed fighting again:
Big fights is what I’m after. I enjoy getting the job done, but fighting is a mother f***er.”
Michael Johson – on the trash talking that took place in his fight:
You really don’t know how you’re going to react unless you get sucked in, so congratulations to him.
Donald ‘Cowboy,’ Cerrone – on his loss:
“Hats off the son of a b*tch, he got me with a good knee.” Sometimes you just don’t show up to work and you get your ass kicked. – I don’t have an excuse I just wasn’t there.”
Alistair Overeem – on his final fight on his contract and testing the market:
“My focus has actually been on this big fight. So this is the new reality and we’re going to have to look into it and I look forward to it. We’re going to negotiate.” “I’m not done yet, I’m going to continue, I’m actually going to head back to camp in January.”
Overeem on his fight with Dos Santos:
“Later on in the fight it became more aggressive, and I heard from my corner that this is the time, ‘throw it.'”
Karolina Kowalkiewicz – on her debut:
“For me this is something amazing for me to be here. I can’t believe that I’m here and that I won that fight.” said the shaking Kowalkiewicz. Though from the same country, she hopes to fight the strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk. “I know her she’s really amazing, in Poland she is popular, but one day I hope to fight with her.”
