UFC Fight Night Pittsburgh: MMA Latest Post Fight Bonuses

UFC Fight Night Pittsburgh: “Cowboy” Cerrone vs. “Cowboy” Oliveira is in the books and it was an exciting night of free fights airing on FOX Sports 1. Oliveira took the headline bout on two weeks notice after Cerrone’s original opponent, Tim Means, was pulled from the card after failing a pre fight screening. In total, we saw seven of the thirteen fights end with a stoppage (6 KO/TKO, 1 Sub). Tonight, MMA Latest chooses it’s KO of the Night, Performance of the Night, and a Submission of the Night bonuses.

Knockout of the Night: Cody Garbrandt vs. Augusto Mendes

Cody Garbrandt continued his hot streak in the UFC with another devastating KO win, this time against short notice opponent Augusto Mendes. It didn’t take long for Garbrandt to showcase his outstanding boxing as he quickly found his range, tagging Mendes at will. Late in the first round, Garbrandt landed a huge “1,2” combo that floored Mendes. A little bit of ground and pound to ensure the victory and Garbrandt is your winner via first round TKO – his fifth first round stoppage in his professional MMA career. As for who Garbrandt would like to face next; it is the man he has had his eyes set on for a while, the opponent he was originally scheduled to fight on the card – John Lineker.

Submission of the Night: Donald Cerrone vs. Alex Oliveira

Donald Cerrone has been notorious for being a slow starter. Tonight, he changed that for the better. Both Cowboys came out swinging. Oliveira connected early with a couple of good shots and they ended up in a clinch. Both fighters landed some good knees, and then Cowboy Cerrone attempted and landed a takedown. People tend to underestimate the ground game from Cerrone and tonight he put many of those doubters to rest. Cerrone slipped into the mount and effortlessly transitioned to a triangle choke. Oliveira knew he was in trouble, tapping immediately. “Cowboy” Cerrone emerges victorious from his welterweight debut via first round triangle choke. As for whether or not Cerrone would remain at this weight or drop back down to 155lbs: “I can make 170 and 155 and if you are looking to get hurt; well, I think I know a guy”

Performance of the Night: Derek Brunson vs. Roan Carneiro

The classic MMA match up – The Heavy Hitter vs. The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu expert, which one would prevail? Derek Brunson, the heavy hitter did so and in a devastating fashion. It would be a real test for him against Carneiro as to whether or not Brunson would be able to keep the fight upright and defend against the dangerous array of submissions Carneiro is known for. Carneiro shot for a takedown early and appeared to slip/get parried by Brunson sending the Brazilian to the canvas. Brunson saw an opportunity and immediately capitalized by raining down a barrage of punches to his downed opponent. A number of the punches got blocked, but the ones that got through landed with devastating power, eventually forcing the referee to step in and end the fight. Brunson has been labeled as the dark horse in the middleweight division, but after winning his fourth straight fight the middleweights better become aware of who this guy is.
