*Updated* UFC Salt Lake City gets finalized with straw weight bout

Published

on

Update: July 22nd 1:44pm PT, Justine Kish sustained a spiral fracture to her finger. An update regarding her former bout has yet to be made by UFC officials.

The state of Utah is set to experience their first UFC event following the promotion’s officials announcing the rest of the card’s bouts.

Last weekend it was reported that the Ultimate Fighter: Latin America Season 2 and Road to UFC: Japan finalists Horacio Gutierrez (3-2) and Teruto Ishihara (8-2-2) would face each other in a featherweight bout. Their fight is set to serve as the opening act for the preliminary card.

The colorful personality that is Teruto Ishihara was last seen in the octagon getting his hand raised in March at UFC 196. Ishihara knocked out Julian Erosa in the second round of their contest. Before earning his first win in his sophomore UFC appearance, Ishihara battled to a draw with fellow Road to UFC contestant, Mizuto Hirota. Both fighters went on to earn contracts despite the controversial finish.

Meanwhile, Gutirerrez will be looking to get his first win in his second appearance with the promotion. Following his decision loss to Enrique Barzola for the title of lightweight tuf winner, Gutirerrez opted to drop weight and enter the ever-growing featherweight division.

Also, announced today, strawweight contenders Maryna Moroz (7-1) and Justine Kish (5-0) are set to open the main card. The Ukrainian fighter, Moroz was on a six fight winning streak, but her impressive string of wins was snapped when she faced eventual strawweight title challenger Valerie Letourneau. Moroz was able to bounce back from her loss by defeating Cristina Stanciu via unanimous decision in April of this year in the UFC Zagreb event.

Kish is currently on a five fight winning streak and will be looking to keep that intact. Kish made her debut earlier this year in January at UFC 195 beating Nina Ansaroff by unanimous decision. Prior to reaching the big stage, Kish won two of her fights by submission and two by decision.

Bellator 185- How to Watch, Times and Fight Card

Published

on

Bellator is once again heading to Mohegan Sun in Uncasville Connecticut, and this time they are bringing with them one of the most anticipated former UFC fighter turned Bellator stars’ debut. Gegard Mousasi will be making his first appearance in the Bellator cage against a former Bellator champion in Alexander Shlemenko. Although this event has lost some of its star power over the last several weeks, it is still stacked and you can bet that the main event will bring some fireworks.

Earlier in the month, it was announced that King Mo had suffered an injury that had forced him out of his co-main event fight with former middleweight champion Liam McGeary. Bellator worked quickly to secure a replacement opponent for McGeary in Bubba McDaniels. Unfortunately for McDaniels and the fans alike, McGeary had later suffered an injury of his own and the fight was removed from the card.

This left a spot open in the co-main event slot, which would be filled by a welterweight matchup between Brennan Ward and David Rickels. Just four days out from the fight, Bellator announced that Ward had also become injured and the fight has been removed from the card as well. The main card has been shuffled around and the welterweight bout between Neiman Gracie and Zak Bucia will now serve as the co-main event.
